Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology’s Dr. Daniel Muema has been nominated as part of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) Early Career Committee (ECC) inaugural board, which will spearhead the activities of the IUIS Junior Community (JC). He received this honour alongside CEMA (Center of Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis) Post-Doc, Dr. Victor Riitho.
The International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) is an umbrella organization for many of the regional and national societies of immunology throughout the world whose objectives include to: -
- Organise international co-operation in immunology and to promote communication between the various branches of immunology and allied subjects
- Encourage within each scientifically independent territory co-operation between the Societies that represent the interests of immunology.
- Contribute to the advancement of immunology in all its aspects.
There are currently 84 Member Societies of IUIS, many of which belong to one of 4 Regional Federations encompassing Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia-Oceania or are direct members such as US and Canada. That represents more than 60,000 immunologists all over the world. Links with other international scientific bodies are promoted through the International Affiliate Members of IUIS, membership of the International Council for Science (ICS) and formal liaison with the World Health Organization (WHO).
First launched in 2023, the JC began its journey during the IUIS2023 conference in Cape Town, and just one year later, they have gathered a dynamic team of passionate individuals representing all regional federations, including ALACI, EFIS, FAIS, FIMSA, as well as AAI and CSI.
Speaking on Dr. Muema’s nomination, Chair of the Department Dr. Marianne Mureithi stated “I am thrilled to congratulate Dr. Muema on his well-deserved nomination to the Early Career Committee board of the IUIS.
