The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI), University of Nairobi, is pleased to announce a Call for Applications for the Biomedical Capacity Development Initiative (BDCI) 2026–2027 Internship Program.
This prestigious program is a student exchange initiative between the University of Manitoba’s Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (MMID) and the University of Nairobi’s Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI). The program aims to strengthen practical research skills, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and support early-career development in the biomedical and health sciences.
🔬 Program Overview
- Duration: 12 months (2026–2027)
- Positions Available: 3
- Location: University of Manitoba and affiliated research/field sites
- Supervision: Interns will be mentored jointly by faculty and appointed supervisors from MMID and MMI
- Expected Commitment: Full-time
Successful applicants will gain hands-on experience in one of the following specialized research areas:
- Pandemic Preparedness and One Health
- Mucosal Immunology
- Antimicrobial Resistance
Applicants are required to select two preferred research areas, listed in order of priority.

🧪 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Have recently graduated (within the last 2 years) with a relevant M.Sc. degree from the University of Nairobi.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in biomedical research.
- Possess research and laboratory skills.
- Show commitment to ethical practice, teamwork, and professional growth.
