Professor Piccaluga's Latest Visit: Collaboration Through Clinical Trials

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) were delighted to host Prof. Pier Paolo Piccaluga during his latest visit to the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Nairobi.

Pier Paolo Piccaluga, MD, Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor of Pathology at the Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine, Bologna University School of Medicine—Institute of Hematology and Medical Oncology, and executive physician at The Biobank of Research, IRCCS S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital. Additionally, he is a visiting lecturer at the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, University of Nairobi where he delivers Molecular Biology lectures for Post-Graduate students. 

During his visit, Prof. Piccaluga had roundtable discussions with members of KAVI-ICR and the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology on potentially carrying out clinical trials for patients with HIV-associated lymphomas and patients affected by Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and KAVI-ICR have decades of experience with infectious disease research and now have the capacity to build on relevant Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) research that is affecting the region with the addition of immunologists and cancer biologists to it's ever growing team.
