Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology Doctoral Fellow James Kangethe recently took part in the the joint advanced seminar 3 (JAS 3) which was conducted virtually for a few weeks in October 2022 jointly by CARTA and the University of Ibadan. Thereafter, an in-person JAS 3 commenced in November and partly in December 2022 at the University of Ibadan, School of Medicine, Nigeria. On board were a set of experienced faculty from CARTA, the University of Ibadan, and other international partnering institutions within the consortium whose immense support was vital in the implementation of the JAS.
Describing his experience at the seminar, James Kangethe said, "Overall, this was a great experience that will go a long way in my academic research path, where I improved my data analysis and scholarly writing skills. The seminar enabled me to critically interrogate my study data and interpret its research findings. Further, the seminar supported my capacity to concisely and clearly write up my research results and use the existing literature in interpreting the results. Skills in the use of prose, visual and tabular data presentation were enhanced. The JAS also played a major role in understanding peer review, publication processes, and critical appraisal of published articles. In addition, this was an opportunity for extending my research and academic network with the CARTA fellows, CARTA graduates, and international scholars that were available in this meeting."
