Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2022 Awards

Dr Marianne Mureithi is among the selected 20 women in science globally to receive the Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2022. She is the current Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and Senior Research Fellow at KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research at the University of Nairobi.

Dr Mureithi’s work focuses on studying multiple social-behavioural, environmental and biological factors associated with the increased susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections and advocating for better access to Sexual and Reproductive health care for all women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa.

She is also passionate about raising and mentoring the next generation of outstanding African scientists

“I want to improve the sexual and reproductive health outcomes of Sub-Saharan African women. I want this because sub-Saharan women, especially those in poverty, are more vulnerable to anatomic, physiologic, social and behavioural dynamics. I can do this because I am part of a team advancing vaccines and new technologies to combat the AIDS epidemic and other sexually transmitted infections,” Dr Mureithi said on receiving the award.

The award is given in conjunction with the Bayer Foundation, Elsevier Foundation and Koerber Stiftung.

 Congratulations Dr Marianne Mureithi.

 About Intensive Track

Our purpose is to inspire and empower talented women in science who have a strong background in research and support them in building an international network. The Falling Walls Female Science Talents programme pursues both the broad-based promotion of women in science and the promotion of exceptional talents.

In our Intensive Track, we provide close support for 20 exceptionally talented women in science. The goal is to increase their visibility and help them achieve a personal career breakthrough within one year. The selected champions participate in intensive online and in-person training in Berlin, Germany. Regular meetings encourage the 20 women to build an international success team for peer learning, peer coaching, and mutual support. We also promote the champions’ international visibility and impact by including their stories and achievements in Falling Walls Social Media campaigns and speaking in a public event set during the Berlin Science Week in November each year.
