Postgraduate Alumni Joins LSTM Researchers in Receiving International TB Collaboration Award

Dr. Esto Bahizire

Dr Esto Bahizire, a postgraduate alumni in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, is part of a team of researchers at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) who recently received the prestigious Dorothy Temple Cross International TB Collaboration award. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the fight against tuberculosis (TB) and highlights the importance of international collaboration in global health research.

Dr. Bahizire's research focuses on better understanding the immune response to TB, particularly in high-burden settings such as sub-Saharan Africa. His work is part of a broader effort to develop new, more effective TB treatments and reduce the burden of this deadly disease worldwide.

In an interview with LSTM, Dr Bahizire shared his excitement about receiving the award and his hopes for the impact of his research. He noted that TB is a significant public health threat in many parts of the world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where disease rates are highest.
