Dr. Mureithi gave an oral presentation titled ‘Trials and tribulations of conducting vaccine R&D in Africa’.

The workshop was aimed at bringing together African researchers leading the HIV vaccine R&D effort and provide them with an opportunity to share their experience of conducting research (from bench to clinic) in African countries, identifying areas where concrete and realistic action could make a difference towards encouraging, supporting and facilitating African-led R&D towards the development of a safe and effective HIV vaccine, and learn from experiences and focus on areas that participants will have identified as key to the performance of their work.

She was invited to the workshop by the International AIDS Society (IAS), which is the world’s largest association of HIV professionals, with members from more than 180 countries working on all fronts of the global AIDS response and

IAS was incorporated in 1988.
