Head of the Zoonotic Disease Unit of the Ministry of Health Visits the Department

Dr Athman Mwatondo, a medical epidemiologist with Kenya’s Ministry of Health and the co-lead in the Zoonotic Disease Unit for Kenya’s One Health Platform,  Zoonotic Disease Unit (ZDU) at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Kenya paid a courtesy visit to the Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology Dr Marianne Mureithi. Dr Mwatondo is currently doing his Doctoral studies in the same department at the University of Nairobi

During his visit, Dr Mwatondo shared three policy briefs highlighting the work the ZDU is conducting in Kenya. These briefs are:-

1. One Health Strategic Plan For The Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases in Kenya (2021-2025)

2. National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Anthrax in Humans and Animals in Kenya (2021-2036)

3. National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Brucellosis in Humans and Animals in Kenya (2021-2040)

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology looks forward to a close and collaborative working relationship with the MoH in the research, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases in the country
