Collaboration

A groundbreaking publication titled "Toward Advances in Retinoblastoma Genetics in Kenya" has emerged from a collaborative effort with researchers from the University of Toronto and multiple departments at the University of Nairobi including the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology. The publication is part of a wider project studying retinoblastoma and genomics in the country lead by Principle Investigator Dr.

We are thrilled to announce the initiation of a promising academic and research collaboration between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Benadir University in Mogadishu. This partnership aims to foster mutual growth and development in various fields of study and research.

Dr. Phil Mixter and Prof. Martina Ederer paid a courtesy call to Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology Dr. Marianne Mureithi. Dr. Mixter and Prof. Ederer, are co-leads for the WSU Study Abroad Kenya Research Immersion at Washington State University and were visiting with several students who qualified for the program.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) and the University of Manitoba (UM) are celebrating a groundbreaking international collaboration with the prestigious Canadian International Development Scholarship 2030 (BCDI 2030) grant. This initiative empowers African students by providing fully funded opportunities to pioneer medical microbiology and infectious diseases research.

James Kangethe, a fellow of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, showcased his research at the 2024 International Conference on HIV Treatment, Pathogenesis, and Prevention Research in Resource-Limited Settings (INTEREST). INTEREST 2024 was held in Cotonou, Benin from 14th May to 17th May 2024.

The University of Nairobi is excited to announce the opportunity for two of our doctoral researchers to participate in the prestigious Una Europa One Health Summer School hosted by the University of Helsinki, Finland. This interdisciplinary program is designed to enhance understanding and application of the One Health concept, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental Health.

The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, under the esteemed leadership of Chair Dr. Marianne Mureithi, in collaboration with the KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research, proudly hosted the Early Career Champions (ECC) programme from January 29th to February 2nd. This innovative initiative marks a significant milestone in the journey towards integrating One Health principles into the fabric of global health research and policy.

Chancellor Patrick Verkooijen of the University of Nairobi embarked on his inaugural visit to the the Faculty of Health Sciences. During his time there, he engaged with faculty staff and students.
