Dr. Phil Mixter and Prof. Martina Ederer paid a courtesy call to Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology Dr. Marianne Mureithi. Dr. Mixter and Prof. Ederer, are co-leads for the WSU Study Abroad Kenya Research Immersion at Washington State University and were visiting with several students who qualified for the program. The program provides research opportunities to WSU undergraduate students, the CVM has created this program to allow students to travel to Kenya and take part in ongoing research of WSU faculty.
The WSU delegation were shown around the Faculty of Health Sciences by Prof. David Odongo and Charchil Onyango. This courtesy call lead to thoughtful conversations on the partnership between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Washington State University (WSU) and how it can be expanded in the future. One key discussion was a program to send MBChB and Post-Graduate students to WSU for laboratory training to expand the knowledge and skills of UoN Students with specific interests in infectious diseases, planetary health and other global public health issues.
