The University of Nairobi over the years has upheld the culture of celebrating its academic achievers through graduation ceremonies, it was no different this year, on 23 September 2022, the University of Nairobi held its 67th graduation ceremony. The hybrid event a mix of virtual and an onsite ceremony for the PhD students was held at the Famous Taifa Hall, one of its kind in the nation.
The department celebrated two DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE IN MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY awarded to;

Dr. Beth Mutai
Dr. Mutai’s Thesis was titled: Development of Two Multiplex Real Time PCR assays for Detection of Eight Zoonotic Tick-Borne Pathogens to determine their Distribution and Associated Risk Factors in Different Ecological Zones of Kenya.
She was supervised by Dr. Kariuki Njaanake, Prof. Benson Estambale and Dr. John Waitumbi (KEMRI)
- Dr. Josephat Tonui
Dr. Tonui’s Thesis was titled: The Spectrum And Antifungal Drug Susceptibility Profiles Of Fungi Obtained From Sputum Of Tuberculosis Patients At Selected Reference Facilities In Kenya
He was supervised by Dr. Marianne Mureithi, Prof. Walter Jaoko and Dr. Christine Bii (KEMRI)
