Dr. Terry Muhoma at CROI 2023
The Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) is one of the largest and most prestigious scientific conferences in infectious diseases, and the 2023 edition was no exception. Held from February 19th in Seattle, USA, the conference featured presentations and discussions on the latest research findings, clinical trials, and public health strategies related to HIV, hepatitis, COVID-19, and other viral infections.
One of the attendees at the conference was Dr Terry Muhomah, a visiting research postdoctoral scientist in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and a postdoctoral researcher at the KAVI Institute of Clinical Research. Dr Muhomah attended several sessions and workshops at the CROI 2023 conference, including HIV pathogenesis, antiretroviral therapy, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and HIV cure research. She also presented a poster on her research findings in collaboration with researchers from the department, such as Prof. Omu Anzala and Dr. Marianne Mureithi.
Dr. Muhomah said, "I found the conference to be an enriching experience, both in terms of the scientific content and the networking opportunities it provided. I had the chance to meet and exchange ideas with fellow researchers and clinicians worldwide, many of whom were working on similar or complementary topics. Furthermore, I also gained new insights into the latest advances in HIV research and the challenges in ending the HIV epidemic."
