Sex Differences in Antiviral Immunity

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology will be co-hosting a webinar on Sex Differences in Antiviral Immunity. The Speaker will be Prof. Dr. Marcus Altfeld, the head of the Research Department of Viral Immunology at Leibniz Institute of Experimental Virology. He is also the Director at the Institute of Immunology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany.

The Speaker will be Prof. Lyle McKinnon, an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba

The University of Nairobi HIV/AIDS Collaborative Meeting

This year’s UoN HIV/AIDS Collaborative meeting was held in the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha from the 26th – 28th of January 2022. The department was represented by the Chair, Dr. Marianne Mureithi, Director Research UNITID- Prof Julius Oyugi, Dr. Kariuki Njaanake and Ms. Winnie Mutai.  

Prof. Jaoko and Prof. Anzala honoured for their role in research

Prof. Walter Jaoko and Prof. Omu Anzala from the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi were honoured by the university vice chancellor, Prof Kiama during a webinar (COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout) organized by the College of Health Sciences, UoN for the great work in research. The two researchers have made a significant contribution to the fight against infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, Ebola and COVID-19 providing strategic leadership, innovation and research. 

Dr. Mureithi in Rwanda for Global HIV Enterprise Workshop

Dr. Marianne Wanjiru Mureithi was in Kigali Rwanda where she attended the Global HIV Enterprise Workshop – Supporting African-led HIV Vaccine R&D during ICASA 2019 that took place from 1st to 6th December, 2019.

Dr. Mureithi gave an oral presentation titled ‘Trials and tribulations of conducting vaccine R&D in Africa’.
