The thematic unit of Virology and Molecular Biology deals with viral infections and the molecular techniques used for the diagnosis of infectious diseases. The main areas of research include HIV/AIDS, Herpes simplex virus, Newly Emerging Viruses such as SARS-COV-2, Ebola, Chikungunya etc and Hepatitis, infection. This thematic unit is also leading in the One-Health Research where the team is investigating pathogens at the human-animal interface with potential to course outbreaks, early warning signs of animal pathogen that have the potential to spill over to humans & surveillance and identifying novel biomarkers and antigens with potential for development of diagnostics, drugs and vaccines.
