James Kangethe, a fellow of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, showcased his research at the 2024 International Conference on HIV Treatment, Pathogenesis, and Prevention Research in Resource-Limited Settings (INTEREST). INTEREST 2024 was held in Cotonou, Benin from 14th May to 17th May 2024. His presentation focused on a study titled "The Dynamic Interplay of High-Risk Human Papillomavirus in Women Living with HIV: Persistence, Clearance, Incidence, and Synergies with Human T-lymphotropic Virus-1 Infections." James's presentation stood out, earning him the distinction of the best oral presenter at INTEREST 2024 and the prestigious Joep Lange Award.
The annual INTEREST Conference brings together scientists involved in HIV treatment, pathogenesis, and prevention research in Africa to share pivotal findings, promote collaboration, and transfer experiences across diverse fields and settings. The Conference showcases cutting-edge knowledge in HIV diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HIV infection. It fosters the building of a community of African physicians and scientists who discuss implementing local solutions for the management of patients living with HIV infection and for the prevention of HIV transmission.
