The Kenya Research and Training Center (KRTC) held a strategic plan launch meeting on January 24, 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. It was Led by Prof. Carey Farquhar, the Interim Chair and Professor, Department of Global Health and Director International AIDS Research and Training Program and Kenya Research and Training Center. Dr. Marianne Mureithi, Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology was also in attendance. The meeting was the culmination of a series of meetings between core members in Kenya and Seattle to identify the priorities for the KRTC strategic plan.
The main objective of the strategic plan is to foster equitable partnerships through localization and sustainability, increase opportunities for training and career development, strengthen administrative support for research and program teams, and strengthen and increase access to network of facilities and resources.
The KRTC strategic plan was created to address the challenges facing the African research and development landscape. The plan will promote collaboration between research and training groups, and offer opportunities for the development of research and training skills. It will also help to strengthen the African research and development infrastructure, improve access to resources and facilities, and support the development of sustainable research and training initiatives.
The launch of the KRTC strategic plan was attended by representatives from research and training centers from across Kenya and the University of Washington. During the meeting, the representatives discussed how to improve the quality of research and training within the African context. The representatives also discussed how to create an enabling environment for the development of research
