The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology were delighted to welcome Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA.
Dr. Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH, is a Professor at the University of Washington in the Departments of Global Health, Medicine, and Epidemiology. Dr. Farquhar is also the Vice Dean for Education in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. She received her MD at Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease at the University of Washington, where she also earned a Masters in Public Health. She mentors US and Kenyan trainees and currently conducts research in Kenya on HIV testing and partner notification services, HIV and HCV diagnosis and access to treatment among persons who inject drugs, and non-communicable diseases among persons living with HIV.
Dr. Farquhar gave a special webinar on her current work on HIV and Hepatitis C Phylogenetics and Drug Resistance among Persons who Inject Drugs attend by University students and staff as well as research staff from KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research.
Chair of the Department and Basic Science Team Leader at KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research Dr. Marianne Mureithi stated, "It was a pleasure welcoming Dr. Farquhar back into the country. Her continued enthusiasm and support to work with us and other regional partners in our current research, capacity building for our students and staff as well as discussing future collaborations gives us great hope in tackling many of the infectious disease problems we have been facing. The entire Department is committed to strengthening this mutually beneficial relationship where opportunities in post graduate research and training will emerge."
