The two researchers have made a significant contribution to the fight against infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, Ebola and COVID-19 providing strategic leadership, innovation and research.

Prof. Oyugi, Professor of Virology in the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi and Deputy Director, University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (UNITID) has been shortlisted for the National Research Fund COVID-19 strategic grant call.
It is not surprising that Kenya has reported the first COVID-19 case, it was coming. With more than half of the countries affected so far, it very likely that COVID-19 will spread to nearly all countries before the outbreak dies off. The number of cases is likely to reach 150,000 in a day or two and over 5000 deaths have been reported so far.
