The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology were delighted to welcome Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA.
The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) together with the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi (UoN), are excited to announce a fully-funded, three-year PhD opportunity in Medical Microbiology research.
A new study by a team of scientists Faculty of Health Sciences, the University of Nairobi and from multiple institutions in Kenya and the United States, led by James Mburu Kangethe (PhD Scholar from the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and a CARTA Fellow), who is co-supervised by Dr. Stephen Gichuhi and Dr.
KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) was awarded the 2022 International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) External Quality Assessment (EQA) Awards For Tier 1 and Tier 2. This is the second year running that the Institute has won this prestigious award. It recognises the best performing laboratories amongst their Clinical Research Centres in Africa. The Institute at the University of Nairobi, KNH Campus was first among Tier 1 and the Kangemi site among Tier 2.
Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology Doctoral Student Dr. Athman Mwatondo's work was recently published in the prestigious journal The Lancet. Dr. Mwatondo is a Medical Epidemiologist working for the Ministry of Health in Kenya. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Nairobi and MSc in Applied Epidemiology from Jomo Kenyatta University.
Professor Pier Paolo Piccaluga paid a courtesy visit to Department Chair Dr. Marianne Mureithi on the 24th of July 2023.
Member of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and Director of KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research, Prof. Walter Jaoko recently attended the launch of UNESCO (03) Plus Project for Academic Institutions which aims to support countries to deliver comprehensive sexuality education for adolescents and young people in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Prof. R. Scott McClelland of the University of Washington delivered a special lecture on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) to MSc students from the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology on the 11th of July.
Dr. Marianne Mureithi has been appointed as an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Department of Global Health at the School of Public Health, University of Washington effective from 1st of July 2023.
