Dr. Omosa-Manyonyi wins IAVI grant on Capacity Building for Scientific Manuscript Writing

Dr. Omosa, a lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Clinical Researcher, KAVI – ICR, UoN has been awarded a grant by IAVI to establish a scientific manuscript writing program at the College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi.  

Prof. Jaoko and Prof. Anzala honoured for their role in research

Prof. Walter Jaoko and Prof. Omu Anzala from the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi were honoured by the university vice chancellor, Prof Kiama during a webinar (COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout) organized by the College of Health Sciences, UoN for the great work in research. The two researchers have made a significant contribution to the fight against infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, Ebola and COVID-19 providing strategic leadership, innovation and research.

Prof. Omu Anzala, a senior researcher (former Director - KAVI - ICR) and a Professor of Virology and Immunology in the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi was among the key speakers during a webinar (COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout) organized by the College of Health Sciences, UoN.

Dr. Moses Masika and Dr. Marianne Mureithi attend Stakeholders Workshop organized by Fleming Country Grant

Dr. Moses Masika and Dr. Marianne Mureithi are among researchers who attended Stakeholders workshop held on 19th March 2021 to review Clinician Handbook and AMU national strategy document. The workshop was organized by the Fleming Country Grant; a £265 million UK aid programme supporting up to 24 countries across Africa and Asia to tackle antimicrobial resistance.

Prof. Oyugi shortlisted for COVID-19 NRF strategic grant call

Prof. Oyugi, Professor of Virology in the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi and Deputy Director, University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (UNITID) has been shortlisted for the National Research Fund COVID-19 strategic grant call.

Here at last! First coronavirus case reported in Kenya

It is not surprising that Kenya has reported the first COVID-19 case, it was coming. With more than half of the countries affected so far, it very likely that COVID-19 will spread to nearly all countries before the outbreak dies off. The number of cases is likely to reach 150,000 in a day or two and over 5000 deaths have been reported so far.

Musyoki emerges best in poster presentation at researchers’ symposium

Moses Victor Musyoki has been described as a researcher in the making.

He joined the University of Nairobi, Department of Medical Microbiology as a technologist in 2015 scaling the career ladder to attain MSc degree in Medical Microbiology from the same institution. Through mentorship and supervision from senior researchers in the department, he has shown keen interest in academics and research with key focus on Infectious diseases including Medical Mycology.

Dr. Mureithi in Rwanda for Global HIV Enterprise Workshop

Dr. Marianne Wanjiru Mureithi was in Kigali Rwanda where she attended the Global HIV Enterprise Workshop – Supporting African-led HIV Vaccine R&D during ICASA 2019 that took place from 1st to 6th December, 2019.

Dr. Mureithi gave an oral presentation titled ‘Trials and tribulations of conducting vaccine R&D in Africa’.
