Members of the Department Prof. Walter Jaoko, Prof. Omu Anzala and Prof Julius Oyugi were both recently featured on the Alper Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2022 ranking.
The University of Nairobi had a total of 18 scientists across various disciplines in the top 50 rankings with both department members on the list.

The Department of Medical Microbiology has teamed up with an International Registry of Men with Prostate Cancer known as IRONMAN. The main goal of this registry is to improve outcomes in men with advanced prostate cancer around the world.

Members of the department Prof. Walter Jaoko and Dr. Marianne Mureithi joined other researchers from the University of Washington, KNH, KEMRI, JKUAT amongst others to discuss the KRTC 2022 Strategic plan.
KRTC brings faculty, students, and researchers together to support research and training that improves health and informs policy in Kenya and other resource-limited settings across the globe.
This year’s UoN HIV/AIDS Collaborative meeting was held in the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha from the 26th – 28th of January 2022. The department was represented by the Chair, Dr. Marianne Mureithi, Director Research UNITID- Prof Julius Oyugi, Dr. Kariuki Njaanake and Ms. Winnie Mutai.
Veterinarian, epidemiologist and PhD Student Veronicah Mbaire Chuchu recently wrote an article for The Nation on the infectious disease rabies.
Member of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and Director of KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research Prof. Walter Jaoko and his team were awarded the best performing laboratory in the 2021 External Quality Assessment (EQA) Program in a ceremony in 2022.
