KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research Hosts Delegation from International Vaccine Institute

Nairobi, Kenya, May 29th, 2023 - The KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research had the honor of hosting a team from the International Vaccine Institute (IVI). The team from IVI paid a courtesy visit to the Institute to establish potential research project collaborations.

Postgraduate Alumni Joins LSTM Researchers in Receiving International TB Collaboration Award

Dr Esto Bahizire, a postgraduate alumni in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, is part of a team of researchers at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) who recently received the prestigious Dorothy Temple Cross International TB Collaboration award.

Department's Scientists Featured in USAID Article For Their Work in HIV Research

Members of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research Dr. Robert Robert Langat and PhD student Matrona Akiso were recently featured in an article by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as some of the scientists at the forefront of developing a HIV Vaccine.

22nd International Pathogenic Neisseria Conference

Dr. Anne Maina, Lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology recently attended the  22nd International Pathogenic Neisseria Conference (IPNC 2022) in Cape Town, South Africa from the 9th to 14th October 2022.

Dr. Maina presented her ongoing research titled 'Symptomatic approach to Neisseria gonorrhoeae management performs better in men than women: a cross-sectional study in Nairobi, Kenya. 

ADVANCE ANNUAL PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS' MEETING

Over three days September 14th-16th, 2022, ADVANCE partners, USAID, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, and program Principal Investigators shared relevant presentations and participated in rich discussions reviewing program progress, challenges, and opportunities to maximize success for HIV biomedical prevention technologies and capacity strengthening across the all the partners' network in Kigali, Rwanda.

Female Genital Schistosomiasis and HIV Infection Field Work

Hellen Kariuki, a Doctoral student in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology carried out a a sensitisation community meeting at Rabai, Ruruma, Kasidi Ward and Mawemambomu Ward in Kilifi County.

She is investigating the effects “Female genital schistosomiasis and HIV infection: “The effects of Schistosoma haematobium on α4β7expression among Kenyan women.”
